While my first published piece in a Connecticut local newspaper was a poem I wrote for Mother’s Day when I was in first grade, my lifelong love affair with wordsmithing, storytelling and creative expression is a journey that has literally taken me around the world and has provided wild experiences that the first grader poet I once was couldn’t have even imagined.
Yes, honey…
one day you’ll sing backup for an infamous psychedelic rock star,
write film scripts for the most prominent evangelist of all time,
live and work at an orphanage in India with hundreds of beautiful children who will teach your more than you could comprehend,
and create sacred, welcoming spaces on a shoestring budget with the savvy you garnered working the family consignment store business growing up.
Something about crowbarring linoleum off the surface of original wood flooring is immensely spiritual.
Anything is possible when you believe that nothing is wasted, words are power, the spaces we inhabit can heal us and that everything, even really dusty things, can be reimagined.
